Student Organization Of Women Architects

I am a big fan of Arizona State University and their design program. When I read the recent article titled, "Introducing the Student Organization of Women Architects and Allied Arts" from ASU's State Press, I was immediately energized and inspired by the young women mentioned. One of the reasons, is that we have a similar mission in bringing the spotlight to women in the creative world and discussing the inequality issue within our field.

A Mindful Conversation

We have got to talk about all the buzz surrounding Madalyn Parker and the email she sent to her team at work. Madeline went on to say she'd be out of office for a few days to focus on her mental health. The response she received from her company's CEO has sparked a larger discussion about what is a rarely-talked topic in the workplace.

Twenty Questions

The Proust Questionnaire has its origins in a parlor game popularized (though not devised) by Marcel Proust, the French essayist and novelist, who believed that, in answering these questions, an individual reveals his or her true nature. You can find this famous questionnaire in the back pages of Vanity Fair. It has served its purpose in getting to know some of the world’s most significant personalities.

Keep The Lights On

Las Vegas is known for its pleasure chest of adult adventures and attractions such as gambling, a never ending nightlife, pool parties, strip clubs, and hospitality hot spots galore. From a design and architectural point of view - I must give Viva Las Vegas some major props. In the past decades, Vegas went through some rapid development, growth and spontaneous redesign. The city’s story, of historic landmarks, famous signage, and that mid-century modern twist seems to have disappeared. However, you can still relive the true essence of Vegas by taking a tour of the Neon Museum.

Spring Forward

Spring is here which means we can put those closed toe shoes and scratchy sweaters away for good. The Arizona heat is on the rise here in the Valley of the Sun, but you won't find me complaining because I am all about the sunshine and blue skies. Although all of the seasons have their ups and downs, Spring just happens to be my most favorite. There is just something about it that makes me stop and reflect.

Take Me To Paradise

Dreaming of a tropical getaway? Me too! Traveling to a paradise with crystal clear coves and deep blue oceans is just what the doctor ordered. I have always been passionate about traveling to other countries. Growing up my parents made it a point to take us on mini vacations from time to time. They always expressed the importance of learning about countries outside of the United States. In my twenties, I spent months living abroad taking in other cultures up close and personal.

Soaking It All In

If you were to browse through my Google Calendar, from first glimpse you'd see a rainbow of colored coded appointments and meetings each day of the week. Not a surprise for a woman that owns her own design firm - it is what to be expected. And, at times I like to admit that I secretly like having a full deck of bookings. It keeps my mind in check and I always have something to look forward to each day of the week. However, like everything else in life, "balance" is the secret to not going insane.

Making A Splash

Summer is a hop, skip, and a jump away which means I have been making a list of all the vacation spots I want to try and visit. I am one of those people that must be around water during the hot months of summer or it simply does not feel like I am on a vacation. I really don't care what type of body of water it is - an ocean, a lake, a river, a freakin puddle for that matter. Just bring me to the H2O! What I know for sure is that there is something incredibly soothing about being around water.
